Gouache on paper, painting executed for a fabric design consisting of flowers and water birds, initialed lower right R. D. within Bianchini Ferier stamp, 17.74 x 11.75 inches (45 x 30 cm).  Ca. 1912. Matted and framed.

Bianchini-Ferier was a textile studio at Tournon for which Dufy made designs to be translated into often highly elaborate and colourful printed fabrics. As the artist said: "Nowhere else but in fabrics do we have the pleasure of witnessing the optical phenomena of lines and colours... It is here that we can enjoy the grace of a beautiful unfolding line, like a delightful melody" (quoted in Dora Perez-Tibi, Dufy, London, 1989, p. 111).
