An interesting group of documents and ephemera relating to fashion.
Contents:
1. Sheet of Nicaraguan stamps commemorating famous couturiers. Very fine. 7.5 x 7.5 inches (19.5 x 19.5 cm).
2. Hand colored fashion engraving, ca. 1825, titled "Modes de Paris / Petit Courrier des Dames" and showing two ladies in fashionable dresses and hats. Fine. 5 x 8 inches (12.3 x 20.6 cm), matted to 7.75 x 11 inches.
3. Ca. 1950's booklet titled "The Model Way," advertising modeling and "career girl" courses with the Patricia Stevens Schools. 22 pp. Fine. 8.5 x 5.5 inches (21.5 x 14 cm).
4. Two original advertising covers for "New Paris Styles," postmarked 1931 and with attractive early-1930's line drawings of fashion and the Eiffel Tower. Fine. 5.75 x 4.5 inches (14.5 x 11.5 cm).
5. Two original early-20th-century postcards advertising Walk-Over shoes. Fine. Each 7 x 4 inches (17.7 x 10 cm), mounted together a larger mount.
6. Autograph bill from shoe maker Christian Huber, dated Philadelphia, January 3, 1893. Folding creases; overall fine. 8.5 x 6.5 inches (21.5 x 16.8 cm).
7. Mail-order catalog for Regal Shoes of Whitman, Mass., dated spring/summer 1911. 8 pp. accordion-folded. Partial splits; overall very good. 4.25 x 7 inches (11 x 18 cm).
8. Autograph bill from shoe maker Henry Wireman, dated Philadelphia, December 28, 1868. Folding creases; overall fine. 8.5 x 7 inches (21.5 x 17.8 cm), mounted to a larger card.
9. Three advertising circulars for Dr. Jaeger's Sanitary Woolen System Co.'s Tailoring Department, Underwear Department, and Spring & Summer Underwear (in "absolutely pure wool"!) ca. 1880. Fine. 6 x 9.25 inches, 4.75 x 8 inches and 8 x 10 inches, each mounted to a larger card.
10. Three pictorial tailors' cards, ca. 1880's, one featuring a blue and gold engraving of children in the countryside (advertising tailor Harry Goldsmith of Beaver Falls, Penn.; 2.5 x 4 inches); the other two with amusing faces and animals printed at the corners (advertising Miller Bros. of Beaver Falls.; 3.5 x 2 inches). One corner crease and small tear; overall fine.
11. Original postcard with name and address completed in pen, buying a subscription to Vogue magazine for $2, ca. 1910's. Very fine. 5.5 x 3.25 inches (14 x 8.3 cm).
