Duke Ellington's Navy Blue Mohair Tuxedo

The jazz great's own navy blue mohair tuxedo jacket and pants, worn often in performance in the last years of his career. Made by Gaetano of Chicago for Ellington in 1967, the jacket features satin lapels and a paisley lining, while the four-inch cuffs on the pants were inspired by the Capri pants of Ellington's mistress Fernanda de Castro Monte. The Gaetano label sewn in a jacket pocket is printed with Ellington's name and dated June 19, 1967. A unique item in fine condition. Provenance: Duke Ellington Estate.
