Metal Couture Belt, ca. 1970
Silver plated metal

Attributed to the Spanish fashion designer known as the enfant terrible of 1960's French fashion. The belt, with a fully functional buckle, has a dramatically tapered shape from the wide front to the narrow back. Approx. 10 inches in diameter.

Paco Rabanne started his career in fashion by creating jewelry for Givenchy, Dior, and Balenciaga, and founded his own fashion house in 1966. He is particularly known for his Metal Couture—large metal accessories for high-end couture and fashion photography—and his outlandish and flamboyant designs.
