Bentwood umbrella stand by Gebrüder ThoneT, with their branded mark, designed in 1888, executed 1888-1911. The top consisting of three elaborately curved legs on a demi-lune shaped zinc base. The three elegant bentwood legs create a beautifully ribbon illusion, with a center carved wood pole supporting the legs and a bentwood bar holding the umbrellas in place. 73 cm. high x 51 cm. wide x 24 cm. deep.
German-Austrian cabinet maker Michael Thonet is known for the invention of bentwood furniture. The Gebrüder ThoneT company was founded by Michael Thonet in Vienna by transferring the company Thonet to his sons under the new name in 1853.
