4to. Original stiff tan boards, original green French paper wraps. 56 pp. First edition of the October 1952 issue of the French art journal Le Point, featuring 19 splendid photogravures of images by noted photographer Robert Doisneau taken at Vallauris that September, including the iconic “Hands of Picasso,” as well as others provided by Galerie Louise Leiris and DH Kahnweiler. This copy signed by Picasso to the title page in blue ink, "For Monsieur R. Verheyen. Vallauris, 11.1.54". Book fine, tiny losses at paper spine extremeties, otherwise light edge-wear to bright French wraps. An about fine copy.

This October 1952 issue of the French journal Le Point, devoted to the life and work of Picasso, is especially notable in featuring numerous photogravures of images by photographer Robert Doisneau, including his iconic “Hands of Picasso”—whimsically showing the artist seated at a table, seemingly unaware that the finger-shaped loaves on the table appear to be his own hands (38). This wonderful photo-essay brings a welcome freshness to the life and work of this artist who is so often mythologised, capturing moments with Françoise Gilot and at work in his studio, while also displaying Doisneau’s fine attention to the richness of “everyday life, the kind that was delightfully dissonant or elegiacally French—and forever fresh… His photo sessions with Picasso, Doisneau once said, left him feeling he had been ‘lightly sprinkled with gold” (New York Times). With 19 finely screened photogravures (many double-page) of Picasso after photographs by Doisneau, along with many in-text images of Picasso’s art, and three full-page facsimiles of letters by Picasso and by Paul Eluard. Text in French including articles by Maurice Raynal, Tristan Tzara, Claude Roy and others.
