Original pen and ink drawing by the British artist depicting the words "I just feel sad" on four fallen leaves.  On wove paper, ca. 1980.  Moderate toning along the bottom edge, with some stains throughout, else fine.  Measures 8 x 10 inches (20.4 x 25.5 centimeters).

Provenance: Christopher Hanley Scott (1945–2002), partner to Henry Geldzahler (1935–1994); private collection, New York.

Hockney met Henry Geldzahler, a curator at the Metropolitan Museum, at Andy Warhol's New York apartment in the 1960's.  Hockney and Geldzahler became close friends and travel companions, sharing a sense of humor, interests, and many similar life experiences.  Through their friendship, Geldzahler and his partner Christopher became the subjects of numerous works by Hockney.
