Hand-Written Fashion Notes to Cassini
Pen on magazine page (Vogue - March 1961)

Original handwritten notes from the former First Lady, who has penned a few fashion ideas to her personal designer Oleg Cassini on a page from the March 1961 issue of Vogue magazine.  Kennedy's note reads, in full: "A great wool dress / would love this – Has leopard print jacket in collection."  This piece provides a first-hand look at the creative process which would define the timeless style of America's beloved First Lady.  Moderate wear with some creasing, but in overall fine condition.  11 x 14 inches (27.9 x 35.5 cm.).

American designer Oleg Cassini came to the United States as a young man after starting as a designer in Rome, where he found work with Paramount Pictures and established his reputation by designing for films.  He became particularly well known as a designer for Jacqueline Kennedy, who has commissioned him to create an original wardrobe for her appearances as First Lady.  From 1961–1963, Cassini dressed her in many of her most iconic ensembles, including her Inauguration Day fawn coat and Inaugural Gala gown, as well as many outfits for her visits to Europe, India and Pakistan.  The "Jackie Look" was to become highly influential and much admired; more than any other First Lady, her style was copied by commercial manufacturers and a large segment of young women.
