"The old Met" opened in 1883 at 1411 Broadway in Manhattan, serving as the primary residence for the Metropolitan Opera until its closure in 1966, when the company moved to the Metropolitan Opera House at Lincoln Center.  Despite attempts to grant the building landmark status, it was demolished in 1967 to make way for an office tower.
