Mr. Tiffany Jones Signed Photograph, ca. 1975
Unit price per
Playful signed photograph of Kenneth Whitehead, a prominent drag performer in the Houston area billed often as Mr. Tiffany Jones and known as the “Texas Tornado”, inscribed "Paul / much love, luck and happiness. / Continued success. / Mr. Tiffany Jones " in black ink. Occasional toning, overall in fine condition. 8 x 10 inches (20.3 x 25.4 cm.).
Whitehead was one of the last performers in the Houston area to use "Mr." in front of their performance name, a custom started as a means of avoiding harassment by police in locales where it was illegal to "disguise one's gender" in public and which thus required drag performers to do their costuming inside of the clubs. The socalled "Houston Ordinance" was finally overturned in 1980. Tiffany also hosted a show at the Madeira Room in Provincetown, Rhode Island in the late 70’s and early 80’s and performed throughout the country as a special guest at many events and venues.
